Emotions Modulate Subthalamic Nucleus Activity: New Evidence in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Parkinson’s Disease Patients

چکیده
Subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation alleviates obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms, suggesting that this basal ganglia structure may play a key role in integrating limbic and motor information. We explored the modulation of STN neural activity by visual emotional information under different demands. compared local field potentials acquired 7 patients with OCD 15 Parkinson’s disease off on levodopa while categorized pictures as unpleasant, pleasant, or neutral pressed button for 1 these 3 categories depending instruction. During image presentation, theta power increased unpleasant images both disease. Only was also pleasant trials. press OCD, no modification seen average, but when triggering response unpleasant. Conversely, disease, beta decrease observed during unrelated to valence stimulus. Finally, significant positive relationship between amplitude emotionally related symptom severity (measured using Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale). highlighted modulations band emotions were specific correlated severity. theta-induced might therefore underlie dysfunction its network leading pathophysiology.

Subthalamic nucleus stimulation in severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.
BACKGROUND Severe, refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disabling condition. Stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus, a procedure that is already validated for the treatment of movement disorders, has been proposed as a therapeutic option. METHODS In this 10-month, crossover, double-blind, multicenter study assessing the efficacy and safety of stimulation of the subthalamic nucl...
متن کاملExpressed Emotions in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Social factors are recognised to play an important role in Obsessive compulsive Disorder. There is some evidence that expressed emotions may be high in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, no study has looked at the concept of Expressed Emotions in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in India. In the current study, 35 patients diagnosed as OCD according to ICD-10 DCR were assessed for Expressed Em...

متن کاملDecisional impulsivity and the associative-limbic subthalamic nucleus in obsessive-compulsive disorder: stimulation and connectivity
Why do we make hasty decisions for short-term gain? Rapid decision-making with limited accumulation of evidence and delay discounting are forms of decisional impulsivity. The subthalamic nucleus is implicated in inhibitory function but its role in decisional impulsivity is less well-understood. Here we assess decisional impulsivity in subjects with obsessive compulsive disorder who have undergo...

Background: There are many controversies about the frequency and burden of suicidality in patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Objectives: This study was done to determine the prevalence and risk factors of current suicidal ideations in patients with OCD. Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 258 outpatients with OCD (Yale-Brawn Obsessive Compulsive Scale, Y-BOCS ≥...
